Hotel set to reopen with 75 jobs
A CITY hotel that closed earlier this year as bookings plunged is to reopen, creating 75 jobs.

The former Quality Hotel at Junction 32 of the M4 has been taken over by British chain Legacy Hotels and Resorts.

It will be renamed the Legacy Cardiff International Hotel and is expected to reopen on November 2.

Andy Townsend, chief executive of Legacy, said £450,000 was being spent refitting the 95-bedroom building.

He said: “We plan to re-open the hotel in various stages, starting with the public areas and 54 of the rooms on November 2 this year, shortly followed by the balance of 41 rooms by November 22.

“We have spoken to some of the former staff in regard to new employment at the hotel but anyone interested in applying for positions across the hotel should contact us by visiting our website at www.legacy-hotels.co.uk or by e-mailing helen.parret@legacy-hotels.co.uk.”

The hotel closed in February when its management, the Real Hotel Company, went into administration citing deteriorating trading.

At the time, it was revealed that hotel bookings across the UK had plunged in the last quarter of 2008.

Recent figures from the hotel industry show bookings and prices have remained low across the UK, but held firm in Cardiff because of demand from people attending sports and entertainment events.

Research from hotels.com showed that hotel room prices in Cardiff had fallen just £5 to an average of £87, making the city the seventh most expensive destination in the UK, more expensive than Newcastle, Manchester, Brighton and Liverpool.

The Danish owners of the Junction 32 hotel have now agreed to lease the building to Legacy and will be refurbishing the building with new fabrics, carpets, televisions and furnishings.

Mr Townsend said there would be an open day to help recruit the 75 full and part-time staff.

He said: “We are planning an open day for recruitment on October 12 at one of the local job centres, so would encourage interested people to mail Helen for an appointment.”

Legacy Hotels also runs the Royal Hotel in Cardiff city centre, which it took over in June, and the Royal Victoria Hotel in Llanberis, North Wales.

Across the UK, it has several other hotels and has a link-up with a Spanish hotel group.
